Dingle Peninsula Bird Report 2005-2007

With 94 pages, full-colour throughout, tables, graphs, colour maps and 74 colour photographs it gives the status of all the bird species recorded on the peninsula. It includes a survey of all the breeding birds of the Magharees and related islands for 2006/7 by Michael O’Clery and the Dingle Peninsula Twite survey 2006 from Derek McLoughlin.

  • where and when they were seen.
  • how common or scarce the bird is and whether it is in decline or doing well.
  • its conservation status as a red or amber listed bird.
  • encouragement for involving the community in recording.

Information about birdwatching in Kerry from the West Kerry and Kerry branches of BirdWatch Ireland is available from our email Round Robins in Dingle Library, The Dingle Tourist Office, Frank King’s Radio Kerry programme on Thursdays at 10.30am.

The West Kerry Branch of BirdWatch Ireland produces the Dingle Peninsula Bird Report as part of our commitment to documenting the natural heritage of Kerry. All the work on the report (except the printing) was voluntary.

We would encourage you to submit your bird sightings by email to Lucie Hankey ldhankey@indigo.ie or post them to Monaree, Dingle, Kerry. The Bird Report will show you how significant your records are. We are particularly interested in red list species and have conservation or monitoring  projects for Corncrake, Barn Owl, Hen Harrier and Brent Geese.
