EU LIFE projects

A number of conservation projects undertaken by BirdWatch Ireland are funded through the EU LIFE-Nature programme, a European Community initiative which was created to support the implementation of the Birds and Habitats Directives with particular emphasis on the establishment and management of the Natura 2000 network of designated and protected sites.

Priority for funding is given to the practical on-site conservation of the most vulnerable habitats and species of flora and fauna in the EU and is intended to halt the loss of bio-diversity throughout the community.
